A recent visit to the wonderful Sci-Fi exhibition ‘Out Of This World’ at the British Library provoked the nerd in me to begin a new voyage; to seek out early science fiction literature, film and art that had never been seen (by my two eyes) before…
The exhibition upturned this gem of a Soviet silent film: Aelita Queen Of Mars (1924). With costumes that would make any discerning 21st Century costumier tremble with delight, it’s one of the earliest science fiction films I’ve seen. Stylistically, it’s blissful and has drawn me into a whole new world of monochrome, just when I thought I was ready for technicolour again.
Watch the clip above, then watch the watch the whole film here.
